The National Theatre of Great Britain’s mutli-award winning puppet theatre production, War Horse, has announced its full Australian cast and 2013 tour kicking off in Melbourne on New Years Eve.

Nick Stafford’s adaption of Micheal Morpurgo’s book War Horse is a strikingly unique production that combines acting, music and choreography to bring living, breathing horses on stage. I mean puppets. Puppet horses.

These astonishing moving creations of people and leather and wood aren't your average finger puppets - coming to life under the direction of puppeteers from South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, they shape the story of a young boy Albert, played by Sydney’s Cody Fern, whose beloved horse is sold to the cavalry at the outbreak of World War I.

Fern is joined on his first major stage role by a cast of 33 other Australians.

Currently playing in London, New York, Toronto and touring the USA, War Horse has reciveved multiple internationally acclaimed awards including two Laurence Olivier Awards, five Tony Olivier Awards and four Outer Critics’ Circle Awards.

Premiering in Melbourne for the 2013 Australian season, War Horse canters to Sydney in March and Brisbane in July.
