Once a Catholic is a widely celebrated satire set in an all-girls' school in the late nineteen fifties and follows the lives of three teenage girls, all by the name of "Mary", who are entering puberty and beginning to question their faith. The girls are taught by hilarious, strict nuns and a priest who drinks a little too much for his own good.
This extremely funny comedy is based on the author's school days in a London convent set in 1950’s which does not necessarily finish the title phrase with "always a Catholic." Rather, this play, a celebrated prize-winner and a critical success, is about the resilience of children to survive in spite of, not because of, their upbringing and indoctrination.
